I have a 2008 Rockwood Premier 2516G. I wanted to purchase the Maxxair II, but I don’t think it will fit. I only have 2 inches from the back base of the fan to the edge of the camper top. From the pictures on the MaxxAir website, it looks as though they need more than a 2 inch clearance for the vent cover. Will either the Maxxair II or the Maxxair fit? Any experiences?

Magoo

I have the Maxxair covers on my trailer and I am not familiar with the Vent-Mate covers but from what I can see they attach the same way. You should not have to take the fan apart to get at the inside nut for the mounting bolts, you should be able to access it with the vent lid open. If you can not get access you may have to take the inside bottom screen off. Let us know how you make out.

Toaobigal, I just bought a Vent-mate, and have a Create-a-Breeze fan too. The mounting brackets must be mounted throught the side of the fan enclosure, with bolts, and nuts on the inside. However, there is no way to access the inside of the fan shroud without disassembling it. Is that what you did?

Thanks,
magoo

I have the Maxxair FanMate 800 mounted over my FanTastic fan in the bathroom, the model 800 attaches to the outside of the fan housing not to the roof. I took velometer readings before and after installation and there is no volume loss on air movement with the FanMate in place.

I would contact Forest River to verify whether or not this is an official warranty statement or just a comment from your dealer. Forest River is the authority of whether or not they would approve the claim from a repair. I do know that MaXXair does not recommend adding their product to trailers using the Fan-Tastic fan. I believe that this would be due to how the hinge is mounted. If you don't use the hinge system and mount the cover directly to the roof, then you would be instituting possible issues with leaking and stress to the roof.

Well, the saga continues...... After all this research, I didn't realize that the MaxxAir is NOT recommended for PUP's with the Fan-Tastic™ vent. The side mounting bolts will not work due to the casing for the fan. You don't have access to put a nut on a bolt. Apparently, the air intake is restricted as well. MaxxAir makes another product that uses self tapping screws for mounting and is recommended for high powered vent fans like the Fan-Tastic. It's called the Fan/Mate. It is a considerable higher priced cover, retail around $72 for the model that has a screen over the vent opening. They make 3 different models. See the link below.

Look at their website.. You'll see MaxxAir and MaxxAir II. The MaxxAir II is longer...

I went to CW and measured the two of them. I bought the original MaxxAir and hinged mounting kit.

The Maxxair II must be new, they didn't have those last summer, when I was looking for one. Did you buy one already?

OK, an update.

The MaxxAir II will NOT fit. It over hangs the back of the trailer top. However, the original MaxxAir will fit with no problem.

Oh well, I was hoping to get the additional air that you get with the MaxxAir II since it has both side and back vents.

No issues, my vent is in the same position as yours, on the rear right of the trailer near the edge in the back. Right now my trailer is opened and I could take a picture of the roof, from the 2e floor in my house to show how close the vent is from the edge of the roof. My cover does not have hinges on it like your picture, it's bolted in 4 places and easy to remove.

Thanks, I'll check into that. From your picture, it doesn't look like the Freedom 1980 fan is set at the back edge of the camper top. I only have 2 inches to play with, are there any issues with the Vent-Mate hanging over the back.?

I bought a Vent-Mate, it was cheaper and it's openening is bigger than a MAXXAIR. If you go in the Snap shot forum, look for a post that says Pictures from vacation and you can see a picture of it. These vent cover should be made to fit the standard 14x14 vent. I chose the Vent-Mate because I have the Create a breeze vent (a 3 speed fan in it)and the size of the opening didn't flow enough air with the Maaxair.
