That malfunction got me thinking about how to run the slides in and out either with low batteries while boondocking or burnt out motor.

Before trying the "Crank em' in" procedure below, check the fuses and GROUND wires.

Procedure for manual extension/retraction of the main slides using the 24 inch landing gear crank: (Provided by Josh at Forest River)

The 8526RLWS uses the 24 inch Landing Gear crank to open or close the main slides manually. The kicker is that the stub shafts operate the OPPOSITE slide.

If one slide can be closed electrically, but the opposite slide is stuck out due to motor failure, the stuck slide can be closed by using the short crank on the closed side stub shaft.

If both slides are out and there is no power, you would have to crank one of them closed far enough using half turns from underneath to be able to insert the crank into the half closed slide and engage the stub shaft. Then you could crank the fully open slide completely closed with full turns. Then you could switch back to the fully closed slide and finish running in the partly open slide with full turns. I hope that was not clear as mud (LOL)

I am also investigating a "Crank Handle Extension" made by Lippert part numbers for 38 inch (pn 117908) and 48 inch (pn 11618).

Wardrobe Slide: This one is made by NORCO and they only make the wardrobe slide. They provide a 12 inch long flex drive bit that you are supposed to attach to a stub shaft sticking out of the back of the slide motor and drive with a variable speed drill or screwdriver. Only problem is that Forest River completely enclosed the motor and cable/pulley assembly behind a cloth covered plywood panel. This panel is held in place with screws that have cloth covered snap caps on them. The caps need to be popped off, the screws removed, the facia removed to gain access to the motor in order to attach the flex shaft and drill. This info was provided by Tech Support at NORCO (Tim Belle).

Lou and Laura
Bella the Short Hair Pointer
2008 GMC Sierra CrewCab SB Duramax and Allison
Pullrite 3300 w/Superrails
2010 Flagstaff 8526RLWS 5th Wheel

Rockwood water damage (Nov 09 2009 4:51:16 PM)

If this has been discussed before, please forgive me in advance. I am wondering if anyone else with a 2009 or 2010 Rockwood is having water damage around the sofa slide. Our 5th was purchased new in February and on our last trip the rubber seal rolled completely in when we retracted the slide. Now, not sure if related, the wall by the chair by the sofa is dimpled, inside and out, from water damage. We returned it to Camping World, several weeks ago, for repair and it has to go back to the factory. We picked it back up today at Camping World where we left it. If it goes to the factory they will not get to it until February! So, we feel we should just keep it at home until our number comes up. We are going to call customer service today to see if it would help if we delivered it ourselves or not. Camping World has 4 others waiting for the same repair.

Danny & Phillis from Arkansas

Black Water Holding Tank (Nov 08 2009 5:05:55 PM)

There are 17 replies, with the last one on Nov 08 2009 at 5:05:55 PM by lamadio
