Hi Doug, Welcome to the forums.
Sorry to here of your troubles. Is it the top or bottom of the front cap.
There's been a couple post on this problem. A fifth wheel Here and a travel trailer Here .
Maybe you could contact them by PM(private message) to get info on the out-come.

Hi: We have the 8280ss 2007, still under the first year warranty and at present it is at the dealer being repaired for the nose cone skin.
It was separating right at the seam across the nose of the unit right above the hitch assembly. We talked to another owner of same model Rockwood Signature Ultra lite 8281ss in Louisana and they were the ones that first mentioned they had to have their's fixed in less than a year and that was when we first noticed it on our unit.
We "think" that the dealer is going to screw the panel back into place rather than staple it as originally done. So far we have not picked the unit up so not sure what is being done. Will keep you posted as to final fix when done. The fact that they have a seam on the point that it would work on the unit is NOT smart design as far as we are concerned.
The dealer had had some other units with the same problem already.
Good luck

| We have a Rockwood 8283 SS and the nose cap initially was cracked so they replaced it last winter. Now the new cap separated up at the top by a few inches. I have just picked it up from being fixed but I am quite discouraged that this happens. (I love the trailer otherwise and hate to have to get rid of it) Has anyone else had this problem and what was the solution? Also, what does an extended warranty cover because it did not cover this. |

To all of you that have had a separation of the nose cone. Yes our unit was to the dealer and they put a backer in there and screwed it together. We are on the road right now and it is doing fine despite the rough roads that we have been over. Still not sure why they designed this this way since seemed to be a stress point that would work with motion. Until another owner mentioned this to us we had not discovered the problem but as soon as we looked sure enough our unit was coming apart and right now 17/7/08 we have not had the unit one year yet. Lots of little things other than this but we too love the overall unit and the layout and the bright clean looking interior. It travels good and my kitchen is in the rear but still stays pretty good with the suspension so the company has done some stuff right. However as a user all those little hassles really are maddening. I guess Forest River just doesn't get it since people do talk and they will eventually trade up but may go elsewhere if too much of these irritations. It is just like a broken toe, it hurts everytime you move. One day I wrote a big long review and when I went to post it it disappeared and have not done it again but one of these times I may just have to do so.
We bought this unit because we could pull with a regular gas v8 and we have been doing pretty good with mileage. The rockwood ultralites are good for that reason. This is our 2nd rockwood 5th wheel, first one was used when we got it. Guess all the warranty hassles had been fixed or else they used to make a better quality unit in 1998. We just wanted a bit more room if we were gone for long time periods and we now have that but we CAN ALWAYS MOVE ON, FOREST RIVER........

| Bud: Thanks for posting your reply about the nose cap. I am back from having ours repaired and we leave on holidays next week so we will see if it holds up. I love the layout of our fifth wheel and would hate to have to part with it but also don't want to deal with ongoing problems. This seems to be a very common problem with these units and you think that Forest River would do something to keep the owners happy because yes...we do talk to each other. Like I said, even though we bought an extended warranty, and this is a known problem they will not cover the repairs. |

We have travelled about 1500miles since we picked up ours after the repair and so far it seems to be holding firm. We have also had problems with the underbelly coming undone, slide bolts shear off regularly and no extra weight in slide room, careful about in and out so no chatter but still happens. We carry a supply of bolts cause one day we replaced one and when started to move it in again the other one sheared off. Of course, there will come a day when we are too decreipted to be able to do this ourselves, then what?
We too have an extended warranty, and that only will start the end of Aug./08, so perhaps we will be ok for getting all fixed before we want to trade. The problem is how far it is to take the darn thing for any of these annoying little issues. Our concertone is once again NOT working for most of it. I am going to ask FR directly for a whole new system since we have had less use of it than it has been broken. I am sorry it was ever in the unit since we could have had something installed on our own that actually would have worked from day one.
All of that said we really like our layout, it is a wonderful open space withthe slide and rear kitchen. We also have the lite interior but that too is one of those "little" things since it is crumpled in the corners since we took possession, documented from the getgo. However, I am not prepared to leave it at the dealer as we are going to be using it off and on ALL year and it is a 3 hr. trip there and back.
Good luck with your fix. will keep you posted as to how our fix stays as we have the 1500 miles to go home again next week and northern Ontario roads are not noted for their smoothness:)

Hi Gang,
We are the folks from Lousiana with the 8281SS that the front cover broke loose. We had it repaired at the dealer last year, and this year it happened again! I contacted the dealer and they done an amateur job repairing it. They used long sheet metal screws and went through the front face into the aluminum frame and covered the screw heads with white mastic. Well I could have done that. We like the camper alot, but have had so many little things go wrong. Oh well just hope all the bugs are worked out now. Hi Ernie and Karen!!! From Bryan and Karen.
Ok Honey! I am packed and ready to go!

Hi all: Just an update regarding our nose cone repair issue. Our dealer has done a good job of repairing our nose cone and we put it to the test with our trip to northwestern Ontario during July. It is about 4000km round trip and Highway 11 and 17 across Ontario are VERY ROUGH in places, lots of bouncing. We are home now and the nose cone still appears to be FIXED. We do have some other trim to have replaced and are now waiting for this to arrive at the dealer.
The Concertone unit is a pain in the "you know" it works less than it does work. Our grandson wanted to play his game cube through the unit and we could not get it to work at all. He is very good at electronics and couldn't get it connected, our son tried and he rebuilds his computer etc. he couldn't get it working and of course, we didn't have any luck. I have the manual and it could be used for fire starter for the most part. When I go to the dealer I will take a video game with us to see if they can connect it. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR Sometimes not being able to connect a video game would be a good thing however, that is NOT THE POINT, Forest River.
The worse part about these annoyances is that we really like our unit layout, brightness and comfort but we may find others that suit us too if Forest River cannot address all that "stuff".
