Hello Everyone:
So we purchased the 8313SS in July and we've spent 14 nights in it so far. While we liked this floor plan because of the couch with air mattress in the rear slide, we’ve found that setting it up every night with the inflation of the mattress to somewhat of a pain! Although I know the air mattress is more comfortable for the kiddos than those thin mattresses found on earlier models, we now wish we had gone with the 8318SS with the twin bed and bunk option. It is nice to have the additional room back there and gives the kids a place of their own on those rainy nights.
And now to my question, has anyone with this model modified theirs for a trundle bed option? I thought this would give us the best of having a place for the kids to hang out (trundle bed slid in) and regular beds in the slide on the lower level with one in the bunk. Any thoughts or photos of this modification out there?
Thanks! Mark

We have the Flagstaff 831BHSS (Rockwood 8318SS) and we really like the floor plan alot. Very useful space. We have the inflatable couch in the living room area, but have not used it yet. What is the process of setting it up? We were thinking about using it to have friends stay with us. Is it more comfortable than making the dinette into a bed? Enjoy your new camper. Wow, 14 nights is off to a great start. Joe

Joe:
The inflatable couch is a very nice feature. The air mattress is of the same quality as those found for your home as a second bed. And the built-in pump is very handy. Although I have not slept on either the dinette or the air mattress, according to the kids the air mattress is much better and has more room (Queen Size!) The process is not difficult, flip the back of the couch over, plug in the pump (110V only) and inflate away. The mattress is attached to the frame so there is no positioning of the mattress before-hand. Takes all of a few minutes. When we are out for extended stays, we even leave the fitted and top sheets on the mattress after we deflate and stow. With the young kids it would just be easier for us to have the beds ready to go w/o the process of "preparing" the bed.
And yes…14 nights has been great! Part of that was an 8-night trip with 4 campgrounds along the way. This is our first camper and we’ve really enjoyed it so far. Hoping to get a few more trips in before the snow starts flying up north here!

We have the air mattress and found it just a little hard when pumped up enough to make it firm. With having some friends visit who would be using that bed we purchased a 3/4 inch memory foam topper from Walmart and wow what a difference that made. After they left we put it on our own bed and there it will stay. We may have to buy another but we will probably take it off ours again as it solves the storage issue.

Hi Mark-
Is the pump inside the couch already or somewhere else on the TT? You have the slide out back living room area, correct? That must be very nice for a second living room to let everyone spread out if you have several folks on board. Joe

Joe:
Yes. The pump is actually mounted to the rear of the mattress and stows with it. I have the same set-up in the living area with the couch although I have not actually used it yet. And you are correct, the rear slide has the second living area that is seperate by the main by a curtain. We have a 19"LCD TV back there on the wardrobe, queen bed (problem area!) and a swing bunk that swings up the ceiling when not in use. There are 5 of us and the size is great! Our second trip out we had some family stop by it ended up raining around dinner time. We had 11 in the TT eating dinner and we were all very comfortable.

We have a 2008 8318SS and I actually wish we'd gone the other way and gotten an 8313SS. It's a pain trying to maneuver through the front bedroom door, around the mattress and to the sides of the bed. I think I'd much prefer the two side doors into the bedroom. Anyway, it looks like each has its good and bad points.

Very true! We just returned from a 1-1/2 week trip and before the trip I removed the couch and just layed a twin mattress on the floor. This worked very well for us. I'm looking to purchase a full-size futon type bed later this year during a trip through PA (there's a retailer there that sells on E-Bay that I'ld like to visit). I think this will solve our problems becasue with the full-size we'll still have nearly 2' at the end of the bed to get to the back drawers with the bed extended.

We have the 8313SS also and truly love it. The air mattresses are great. We use both of them regularly. It is a little tough to manuveur around the back bed, but it's only up during the night. Goes up and down easily.
