This may be a first, but I am sure others have had similar experiences. A campground we visit in West Virginia is overrun with Raccoons. Would anyone know of a good home remedy that works to keep the pesky bandits away? We learned quickly to not place left overs in the garbage and no dog food outside the camper. I have read that a mixture of dawn, water and a good hot sauce may deter the unwanted visitors, but these guys are really domesticated for wild animals. They are not afraid to come right up to the campsite even when you have a roaring fire, although I had fun with one in a metal garbage can and a rock.
PS This is a State owned Campground, so the animals are protected.

I should add that I did not harm the Raccoons and other than using the spray formula as a possible deterrent, it is not supposed to harm the critters either. By the way, the campground is small, but nice and in the beautiful Coopers Rock State Park near Morgantown, WV. The overlook at the park is beautiful and there is a gift shop and hiking trails. It is just off Interstate 48 between Morgantown, WV and Cumberland, MD. There are Whitetail deer and of course, harmless, but sometimes pesky Raccoons. http://www.coopersrockstateforest.com/camping.html

You are correct! It was I-48 years back and changed to I-68. I guess that shows my age. Actually, I hope no one avoids that area due to my post. It is a gorgeous area of the State as are many other areas of the Mountain State. The Raccoons are just hungry and as long as you avoid leaving food outside the camper, you will be good to go.
