Has anyone camped out west at Glacier National Park? Any recommended camps? We are also going to Banff in Canada. Any suggestions there? Thanks We are going in July. Places we should see!
Hi Ed, I have camped in Banff, It was only for a one night stop over and we stayed at Tunnel Mountain 2. It is not a campsite you would use for a long stay. The town has the one main street and its definitely worth the walk from one end to the other. A ride on the Gondola up Sulphur Mountain should not be missed. Also the hot springs are unique, and make sure you visit the Chateau Lake Louise just a little further north on the Hwy. You can book ahead with Parks Canada reservations. http://www.pccamping.ca/parkscanada/en/ Dave

If you are going to Banff you also need to do the Athabasca glacier tour where you get on a big ice vehicle and go right out onto the glacier. Take an empty bottle with you so you can fill it with the fresh melted water.
As for campgrounds don't stay at the Dave Thompson Resort. We did and regretted it. Sorry can't recommend one though as we only stayed at the one place.

We were just in Glacier last year in July. Many campgrounds are small and not that nice. You can just about always find a spot at St. Mary campground. FAR AND AWAY the best campground there is Many Glacier. Beautiful and lots of great hikes without having to drive anywhere. But you need to be there early, like 9 am, to try find a site. This campground is almost always no availability by 11 am. Quite a number of sites will not accomodate large units in most campgrounds.
