Has anyone come across a product that will work for keeping Shad Flies away ?. We are seasonal on the north shore of Lake Erie and this year the Shad Flies (also called May Flies) have been terrible, The locals are telling us it is the worst they have seen in 20 years. Regular bug sprays like Raid work ok for killing them but they are back in the thousands within minutes.
We were camping last weekend and had the same problems with deer flies. This year has produced a bumper crop of them and the worst I have seen in many years. They have bright green heads and have a hefty bite. Some insect repellants are like ice cream for these guys and I don't know of one that works for very long. I use a fogger which is effective, but like you say, they soon return. Also, there are a lot more ants and other critters around this year too..
