I noticed this weekend that although the electronic tank monitor said I still had 1/3 of a tank of fresh water, I was not able to pump much water out of any of the taps. The pump would not stop running (shut it off after a few minutes). As much air as water was coming out of the taps. So I figured, in spite of the 1/3 left reading on the monitor, I was out of water.
But, when we dumped our sewer and gray tanks, I opened the fresh water drain and there was still water there? Not sure how much but there was some water flowing.
I also noticed this weekend that after we added some toilet chemical to the toilet, the black water tank went from 2/3 full down to 1/3 full the next morning. Guess that stuff works. Either that or the monitor system is a bit off.

The outlet fittings on most water tanks are located on the sides about an inch above the bottom which could allow the pump to suck air when there is still several gallons of water remaining. This is done to prevent the pump from picking up any residue that might be laying on the bottom. If the trailer is slightly off level the pump could suck air with even more water in the tank. Tank guages do not have a reputation for being very accurats or reliable...mine are'nt.

If you look at the location of the tank sensors, here is my take on what they mean.
Empty = 1 to 2 gallons in the bottom of the tank.
1/3 = 3 to 15 gallons in the tank.
2/3 = 16 to 28 gallons in the tank.
Full = 28 to 30 gallons in the tank.
In other words, they are relative indicators, not meant to be accurate gauges.

I guess that I've become so "dependent" on my guages (and it doesn't matter what the make of the unit is), that if I have lights on any of my tank sensors (fresh, gray, or black tanks) I know that either my 110v is plugged in and the inverter is working OR that I have some juice left in my battery.....
