Had the fuse blow on my 831RLSS today and after replacing it all was fine, Although it did make me take a look at where the manual crank for my unit was and I found it under the wheel well. Strange but I don't have a crank lever to turn it. Did anyone receive one with there units? The drive is a short stub shaft with a roll pin through it. I'm wondering if the dealer forgot to give me one or what everyone else does to turn it.

Dave,
We got a wrench with ours. It looks alot like the tool that we use for putting down the landing gear.

We got two with our 08 831RLSS, a long one (30") & a short one(15"),the only problem is that neither of them will fit inside the wheel well. I drilled a hole in the plastic fender directly in line with the stub shaft and found a plastic plug to fill the hole. I also bought a 3/8" drive 5/8" deep well socket and cut a 3/16" wide slot down both sides of the socket and can use a ratchet on it or use the factory wrenches. (Can also use my cordless drill, extention & modified socket). Hopefully will never have to use any of them. p.s. Dave, Send me your address and I will give you either the long one or the short one. Just pay the shipping

Thanks for the offer Neil, I talked with my dealer today and he said he will try to get me one at no charge. If he is not successful I will follow up on your offer for sure.
Thanks Dave

Mine came with both long wrenches. I noticed the hole in the front wheel well while sitting at a campfire one day recently. But I never tried to put the wrench through the hole. My dear wife if much better at bending than I, so one of her set up jobs is to crank down the "landing gear".

That will come in pretty handy. You also use the same crank handle if you have an electic jack. I found my handle in the underbelly storage area. It was behind the wood cover/protector they put up to protect the water pump area.

IMO, the 3/8" drive 5/8" deep socket and a ratchet work better for both places and are much easier to store and use.

My crank is on top of the rear wall in the "basement" on the door side compartment. I needed to use it on my very first trip when I blew the 30 AMP fuse on the front landing gear of my 5th wheel by over retracting. (no spare since corrected). I needed to get to the manual landing gear nub by removing a piece of tape behind and above the driver side 30 pound propane tank.

I was VERY mistaken. We DID NOT get the longer handle. Just the short stub one for the front landing gear. I have discovered since (today in fact) that the company that manufactures the frame and slide assembly supposedly includes the longer handle when it ships to Forest River. The crank handle "should" have been shipped with the trailer to the dealer. When I winterized my camper that back wall had to be removed and there was no longer handle back there.

There are manuals on this site for downloading that "imply" the correct cranks were shipped to Forest River. Perhaps they were "waylaid" for sale? Nah I doubt it. Although the dealer offered to sell me one, but was not sure which one went with my camper.

Dealer contacted Forest River and they say the correct crank is "On the way." I will let you know when it gets here.
