Hi All, We are planning on upgrading to a 5ver. Our Flagstaff has been great with very little problems. There are some things that concern us, but these are due to actions we have done, rather than manufacturing problems.
I know that when someone asks how everyone likes their particular trailer, they 99% of the time sing all the praises of how wonderful their particular trailer is, especially on a forum dedicated to that brand.
I would like to know what you "DONT" like about your 5ver. We are looking at bunkhouse models.
I will be honest here, I have been looking at all different brands, and so far the Cross Roads Cruiser is my first choice with the Wildcat a close second. They both have the floorplan we like. I am just now researching the FLagstaff/Rockwood 5vers.
My problem with the Flagstaff/Rockwoods is finding detailed construction standards and illustrations. I like to know how these things are put together and with what materials.
Your thoughts and ideas and info are welcome.
Thanks,
Bill

Our 5er is a 2003 and its still kicking. The only think I do not like about my 5er is the clearance of the awning to the top of the door. FR has corrected this over sight.

Our 5th is a 06. Have no problem and the ones we had were fixed with out problems. The only thing I don't like about any 5th is the inside steps, have to deal with them. We like the ultra lite as far as weight, but I don't care for the thin walls.
Good luck on your search and decision.

I have an 2006 Flagstaff 8528CKSS Ultra Lite. Had a slide leak that took the dealer 3 times to fix (they were not sharp). Tank probes are not very good (trying every method to get them back on line). I do not worry about the probes since with the wife and I we can hold for a least 5 days.
Laytout we love, of course these trailers are not high end, so there is nicer out there. The Wildcat seem to pretty good and most of the people I have talked to camping like the Cat.
Overall, our unit is pretty good and we use it a lot. I have been on two full weeks trips and 2 weekend trips in the last month. Also, we camp nearly year round here in south Louisiana.
Happy camping!

We have a 2005 Flagstaff 8528GTSS 5ver. You have to keep in mind that in order for the 5ver to be a "mid profile" (lightweight), they have to use what appears to be sub standard material and lacking in quality. Other than using aluminum framing, making a real quality light RV is almost an oxymoron. In any case, we have been happy with our GTSS. I accepted the lightweight/quality concern from the "git go".
My biggest concerns are: 1) DO NOT mount anything to the rear bumper!! I'd even take the spare tire off after talking to Forest River. They warned me against even putting a bike rack back there. I mounted one of the small Honda 3000eui generators back there and the back bumper almost fell off on my return trip from Florida to NC. And now, 3 years later, My floor across the back from the door across to the other side appears to be separating. I have been told it is because I damaged it with the generator on the back bumper. 2) The tank monitors are not worth a "crap" (no pun intended). Even after installing tank flushers in both tanks, the monitor still is very inconsistent. 3) The Concertone entertainment system is ok, nothing extra. The little flatscreen is ok too. The surround sound is a good feature for any RV. 4) I don't think the AC is adequate especially with the "lighweight" construction and minimal insulation.......AND single paine windows....ugh!!!! All in all, keeping in mind it is a lightweight, we are actually quite pleased with the Flagstaff. I've made quite a few upgrades and improvements (like most campers do). I put lights and receptacles just inside each of the side and front storage doors, and put a peg board divider between the very from storage area and the side storage bays. And I pull it with a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 with the old 360cid engine. It does great, BUT boy does it love the gas (6.5gpm when pulling the 5ver). |
