How about Elkhart, Indiana...Maybe we could arrange a group tour of the factory. Elkhart campground is pretty decent.

Tennessee or Southern Kentucky would probably be reachable for a lot of people. The weather in that area is usually pretty nice in May.

Jeannie and I have camped in Berea Ky, Renfro Valley Ky, Pigeon Forge Tn and Crossville Tn and visited several other areas nearby. The question would be what attractions would we want to visit. Maybe we need to form a list of people who would want to attend the second annual rally and pick a place which will be in the center if possible. We enjoyed the rally and would like to attend the second if possible.

Guys I did some checking it looks like Nashville would be a good place it is about 1/2 way between Mikes place and mine.
Greenville, PA to Nashville, TN = 578 miles
Prarieville. LA to Nashville, TN = 594 miles
Livonia, MI To Nashville = 537 miles

Has any one camped around Nashville??

Nashville would be about 550 miles for us from eastern NC (Fayetteville). A 600 mile radius from Nashville would encompass a lot of folks.

Also there is Pigeon Forge, TN with 32 campgrounds($20-$80) & Dollywood. Gatlinburg is only 8 miles south. This is a beautiful area and there are a lot of attractions, places to shop & restaurants.
It would be about 100 miles more from Prairieville, LA, 30 miles more from Greenville, PA and 15 miles more from Livonia.

We have camped here several times & Steve & Jeannie Lange have been to Gatlinburg several times also.

I would vote for Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area. We camp there at least a couple times each year. Most all of the campgrounds have SMALL sites, but most also have water, sewer, electric, cable and WIFI - about $30 per night. Riverside Campground is actually in Sevierville and is before you get into the horrendous traffic in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg and is on the river, so guests can fish. We are only 2 hours away, so it is convenient for us. There is enough stuff to do to keep anyone busy for weeks, not just a few days. There are lots of hiking/biking trails (in Great Smokey Mountain NP), there is shopping and lots of it, Dollywood, numerous music theaters, horseback riding, etc. We go down each year for spring break and the weather is usually in the 70's. This year, we had a bad storm on Tuesday and then it cooled off for a day or so and was only in the 60's.

I was going to suggest Natural Bridge State Park in Slade, KY. It's about 45 minutes east of Lexington. It has 2 campgrounds within the park, lots of hiking trails, a lodge with a restaurant and pool. It is close to the I-75 corridor and a really nice campground.

We would LOVE to attend if it's close enough.

After looking at the prices for the sites in nashville I agree with Neil I think gatlinburg would be a better choice. Now all we need to do is find a camp ground. I would also like to see if we could move rally dates to mid june when the kiddys are out of school.

We stay @ Eagles Nest in Pigeon Forge. I think mid-June is an ideal time altho' it might be a little warm for Yankees.

I have never been to either place (Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg), but I have been told by several people that Gatlinburg is a much better place to go because it has a much wider range of activities for folks.

We go to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg usually once a year and prefer PF to Gatlinburg for the shopping but both are nice and so close together it doesn't matter. We take the grand children and never run out of things to do even staying two weeks at a time. (usually run out of money before activities.) It is a really nice destination.

We go at least 1 or 2 times a year to the Smoky Mts. in TN. We love finding new places there as we enjoy nature photography (mostly waterfalls). We don't spend as much time in PF or Gatlinburg due to the 'crowds'; we prefer the quietness of nature. We also prefer early spring (end of April - 1st part of May) or fall (Oct.) as the temp is not as warm and less crowds.

We have camped there as well as rented very beautiful log cabins a few times (not the ones at campgrounds, but through reality companies); and have always enjoyed our trips there.

Anyway, the campground we've stayed at in the past is just outside of Gatlinburg (about 12 miles) so it's in a quieter, less congested area. There are also some nice places to hike in that area as well. The CG used to be called Crazy Horse but has been changed to Adventure Bound. Here's thier website if you want to check it out:

http://www.abgatlinburg.com/default.asp

Another thing to keep in mind; PG and Gat. both tend to attract a lot of car and cycle shows. Seems there's one going on at least 2, sometimes 3, weeks of every month. They are usually on weekends, but folks tend to go out prior to the weekend and some stay later. So you end up having to deal with huge crowds and traffic especially during car/cycle shows. We usually schedule our trips around the shows to avoid the traffic. Might want to consider that when planning the date if you decide on the Smoky's.

If you are interested, here's some photos I took at Adventure Bound in 2005, when it was called Crazy Horse. Many of the pics have our Aliner in them as that was the camper we had at that time. Just look for the pics with the title '2005 TN...' at this site: http://s160.photobucket.com/albums/t194/racci_cj/

I live in Knoxville. YOu may want to take a look at Townsend,Tennesee. It is known as the peaceful side of the smokies. It is still within a 10 minute drive of all of downtown Gatlin./pigeon Forge/Dollywood, But ALOT less tourist traffic. We've stayed at the KOA Little River campground in TOwnsend and it is great. A little pricey for a riverfront site if you can even get one, but it's a nice place. There is another place right next door called Tremont Resort which looked really nice also.
Here is a link for the townsend area. hope it helps...http://www.smokymountains.org/accommodations/campgrounds.html

Just a suggestion. Why not have two or three in other parts of the country? like north, south, east and west??? With the price of gas and children in school that would be so much better then one that only a handfull could attend?

Toshiba,
That is a great idea we had our 1st Rally Last year in Williamsfield OH.
I hosted it and it was also the 1st ralley I attended.
All you need to do is pick a place and date, post it on the forum and see who shows up. worst case is you go camping for the weekend.

Good Luck
