Our 2005 Flagstaff 5ver is equipped with a CCI Controls propane leak detector. It is alerting erroneously. Our RV has been sitting in the shed for over a month, I have turned the propane off at the tanks, and the detector has/is alerting about 2 times per week. There are no chemicals (pinesol, amonia, etc) near the detector either. I talked with CCI tech support and was alarmed (no pun intended) when he told me that the life of the detectors is about 5 years. So, if my 5ver is a 2005, my detector could be a 2004 model...so I am in my 4th year of it's life. OH...and the warranty is only 2 years on the detector. So, the tech says I need to purchase a new detector. Has anyone else run into this issue?

Do you have the trailer plug into electric? If not the battery might be low.

Larry

Try plugging your trailer in and see if it solves the problem, as Teri & Mickey said a low voltage reading from your battery will cause the propane detector to beep intermittently, our dealer covered this on the PDI, suprised the CCI tech didn't mention it.

What Capn Courage (Norm) says is true, we had it happen on our 2007 Kodiak when the converter quit working while we were away from the camper for about 3 hrs and had left some lights on. When we got back to the trailer the leak detector was chirping. I immediately went outside and shut off the tanks, connected a fan, opened all the windows, roof vents and the door. After I started turning off the lights, the leak detector shut off. As soon as I turned on a light, the detector went off again. I did exactly what Norm said, hooked up the truck to the camper and with all the lights on, the detector remained silent. Had to have another converter installed.

Interesting and timely post. After our last trip, when the DW cleaned the stove she inadvertently turned on one of the burners to the stovetop. It took me 4 days to 1) Determine that the smell was propane and not an odor coming from my grey water tank and 2) That the burner had been left on draining one of my recently filled propane tanks and working on the second. Interesting enough, my LP detector never indicated there was an issue. Several times I attempted to “air” out the TT as I thought it was my grey water tank and ran the fantastic fan with the door left open. I assume this was a pretty dangerous situation as if there was a spark that could have ignited the propane that filled the TT when it was closed?

So am I to assume that the LP detector is not working? The TT was hooked up to shore power so there was not a low battery issue.
