Forgive me if this question has already been asked and answered, but I was not able to find anything in the forum. This past summer I bought the kiddos a Honda CRF50 motorcycle for trail riding…and of course I needed to be able follow them on the trails so I purchased a 230 for myself (at least that’s what I told the misses!)
Anyways, my question is has anyone tried to mount a motorcycle rack to the back of their TT? The combined weight of the two motorcycles is around 360 lbs. I’m assuming the bumper is not structurally able to support this setup and would have to tie back to the frame with the mount. Any ideas or is this a bad idea because of the weight being at the back of the TT? I would like to use the type of mount that goes into a hitch receiver so that I could mount a hitch receiver on the TT and also use the rack on my truck when not towing.
Any help/ideas are appreciated!

From everything I have read, mounting bike racks on the back of a trailer is not a great solution, I would assume mounting 360 pounds would make it even worse. You might be able to get someone to fabricate you something similar to the bike carrier made by Toppoprails to go on the front of your trailer although it would certainly add a lot to your tongue weight.

Bed of your pickup would be the best solution. I carry a scooter on our bumper. Made a 2"receiver hitch which is attached to frame and bumper. Purchased a bike carrier which fits in receiver.

I don't know if this will help Mark but I have a 2002 F-150 and was able to purchase a front mount hitch receiver for it from Acklands Grainger. It just bolts into place and can be used for a variety of things. Maybe they make one for your model and you could mount them up front. Just a thought. Hi Mark,
Ar rack for carrying motor bikes can be fabricated and installed if done correctly. There is good information on this site.
Proper planning and frame reinforcement will be needed.

Thanks everyone! Mike - The website you posted was exactly what I was thinking. I should probably calculate what the 360lbs on the back of the trailer would do to my tongue weight. As I understand it, you want to keep this around 10% of your TT weight, which is around 670lbs. With the weight at the back of the TT this may reduce this too much and cause instability in towing.

I have an 8272 Rockwood and want to add a bike rack for one bike ( regular domestic bike not a motorcycle) about 50-70#. Does anyone know if that weight is ok for the bumper??
