Hi!
We're planning a Thanksgiving week to the mountains of NC and would love to have suggestions. We've stayed in the Boone and Asheville area, we loved it, but want some place different. We want mountains and bike trails and hike trails and maybe some old towns to visit.
Any ideas? State Parks or private.
Thanks so much!

We've never camped at this campground by Bryon City, NC, but have taken several day trips there in the past to go on the nearby trails to see 3 waterfalls. It's called Deep Creek Tube Center and Campground. The trails are great. The only thing is that they are only open until Nov. 2, so if you are planning on going over Thanksgiving, the campground would be closed. But if you happen to stay anywhere else nearby, such as around Cherokee, you could still go hiking there, at least I assume you could still get to the trails. You might want to check to verify that the trails don't close in early Nov. also. Here are a couple of links about Deep Creek:

It is actually Bryson City, NC. Beautiful quaint town, one of the Smoky Mountain Railway Depots is located there. You can schedule train rides on their website http://www.gsmr.com There are private campgrounds in the area with Cherokee and Maggie Valley nearby too. A wonderful place to be anytime of year.

Although just across the South Carolina/North Carolina State line, we liked this campground. http://www.pineridgecampground.com/
If you are a Good Sam Club member, you will get a discount and the rate for full hookup sites are reasonable.
