I was going to buy a new white water supply hose from Walmart, but on the back of the package it said "this product is made with materials known to cause cancer and is banned in the state of California". Is there a safe hose to buy?

Is there anything that is not known to cause cancer? I bought a white hose from Princess Auto, it was sold as an RV Water Hose - so I would expect it should be safe to use. I never noticed any warnings, but then again, I did not read the fine print. BTW I made the mistake of using the new white hose to flush the black water tank, hooking it up to a tap that said "non-potable water". Guess I need to read things first, so, the first white hose is no longer a white hose, bought another white hose, at $9.99 I didn't think it worth the risk to use a contaminated hose.

All plastic products can leach chemicals which might be harmful in one way or another including water hoses. The cancer warning is there to protect the maker and the hose is probably made with the same materials as other brands which have no warnings. I have bought four 10 ft. lengths of white hose from Wal Mart and they look identical to other brands.

The warning labels on all extension cords also state a Lead Hazard safety warning as all flexible extension cords, adapters and power strips contain lead. Just wash your hands and keep the kids and animals from chewing on the cords.

Water hoses are made of a different material to prevent leaching that causes the water to taste bad while sitting in the hose. If you are worried, just remember your home plumbing has lead solder and you drink out of the pipes everyday.
