Hmm. I took a long hard look at this program and spent a lot of time on the phone with a Rep from Florida about this "freebie." Our new 5th wheel came with a free 3 park membership to 1000 Trails Resorts but other than a list of parks there was no other info. So I talked at length with their Rep who was not all that forthcoming about the details. They wanted me to schedule a Free 3 day Camping trip to one of their resorts to get the pitch. I did not want to do anything until I found out more through additiona phone conversations. Short answer: "Its not so free."

The Free part that comes with the camper is basically a waived initiation fee. You will still be responsible for a 600 dollar a year "maintenance fee" and other fees depending on services you might need beyond the "basic" (includes full hookups and 30 amp service at the 3 parks you chooose). The free camping is in 3 week stints at those parks only so you need to "Choose Wisely." Once you have chosen you CAN NOT change them.

There is an extra charge for 50 amp service on a per day basis. (Did not apply in my case).

I like to travel and can stay at military campgrounds and KOA. That 600 bucks will buy a LOT of camping anywhere I want to go. So long answer: It was not for me. Ditto the 30 days free at Gettysburg if I joined their group. Lou

I looked into it but decided against it. There are only so many of these membership campgrounds but tons of non-membership campgrounds you can go to. Additionally, there probably isn't one in many areas you might want to camp. Therefore, I suggest you keep your options open and camp anywhere you want and pay for only the nights you actually camp and not have to worry about paying maintenance fees or other charges that add up.

Thanks for the replies.

We've decided against it because A. We don't want to hear the sales pitch by attending the free weekends and B. We probably won't be camping that much due to the fact we are limited to weekends and a week or so during the year. Maybe if we spent weeks or months at a campground it would be worth it. Anyway, thanks for the help.

To make it pay you waould have to spend at LEAST 30 days camping every year at those 3 parks. Forever.

Not what I signed up for.

I just bought into something similar to the 1000 trails. I have friends and family that have seasonal sights at the 1000 trails in advance (Forest Lake) so we wanted to camp with them. I called about the free weekend with no intention of buying just wanted to take the free weekend and spend time with the family. A very nice lady at the call center advised they were not doing any more free weekends at this campground but asked if I was intrested in buying. I was honest with her and told her that that park was the only one I was intrested in and could not go enought to warrent a membership. She asked that I look at the "Ready Camp Go" program. I looked at it and bought one that day. the deal is I bought a $49 dollar 1 year card that allows me to stay at certin 1000 trails, NACO, Encore and other sites on non holidays for up to 15 nights for $28 per night. I just used it last weekend and had a great time with the family. No hidden fees. when I arived with my Conf number I paid the guard $56 for 2 nights went and set up. (I only needed 30a so I didnt need to pay the $3 per night for 50a)I realy like this program no $600 yearly maint fees and no need to buy a membership at about $6K they have other packages on the Ready Camp Go Program, and a list of the included campgrounds on the website. Just Google "Ready Camp Go"

Safe and happy travels to all,

Wow, thanks for the tip. I have a good friend with a 1000 trails membership and this just might be the ticket I need to camp with him.
