The clear lens should have a couple tabs holding it onto the lamp housing. Us a small, flat blade screwdriver to carefully pry the lens off. Be carefull not the break the tabs. This should give you access to the bulb.

Do you need to have one of the outside lights switched on to be able to use the hitch light?
My Flagstaff does not, but I know of other trailers where the hitch light was in series with the patio light.

As far as I know, the hitch light has power to it always, independent to the patio light.

on my 2008 ROO 26RS the hitch lite switch burned-up. sincei bought from rv direct, no-one local would look at my trailer with out money upfront, so i contacted forrest river and they sent me for free an entire new light switch and all. as soon as it stops raining, i'll install it.

I have the same problem with that light. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I have to turn it off and on about 3 or 4 times to get it to work sometimes. I don't think the switch is weather proof and the contacts don't work then. Should be a better weather proof light on the front. At least the switch.

The factory switch is NOT weather proof and this causes a problem.

You may want to replace the dinky little switch with a weather-proof toggle switch.
These are found at Industrial Electronic Supply Stores. They're available in different sizes. A new hole will need to be drilled in the light housing. Remove the lens and look inside before you drill, so as not to hit anything inside.
