Hello everyone,
We are very happy to have found this RV owners forum. We have just ordered our new Signature Ultra-lite 8314 BSS and can't wait for it to arrive. (6-8 wks ????) AHHHHHHHHHHHH.
Anyways we are returning to camping after sitting out for the last 11 years. We didn't have time then, and now that we have both retired and spent all that money on the new trailer, I'm afraid that's ALL we have!
We hope we can make a useful contribution to this site and maybe bump into some of you along the way.

Thanks for the warm welcome. Since discovering this site a couple of days ago, and because it's been too darn cold to do anything else, I've been reading all the forums regarding the problems with axles, wheel bearings, slides, sound systems, poor quality control etc., etc.,! Of course I wasn't aware of any of this BEFORE I ordered our new Rockwood, Jan 4 2010. I certainly am prepared to deal with a few isuues, hopefully minor, cause that stuff happens with almost anything you buy these days. However, I've just recently retired from a very stressful occupation and was hoping, returning to camping would be relaxing and allow us to become snow birds.
My questions:
Are any of you happy with your Forest River product?
Would any of you buy another FR product?
Should I "walk away" from my deposit, and cut my losses?

Thanks folks

Ted

This is our second Rockwood and we would not hesitate to buy another Forest River product. Like many on the forum we have had some minor issues, but from talking with owners of quite a number of other brands it seems every brand has it's problems.

My feeling is that it is as important, if not more so, to find a dealer with a good reputation for after sale service regardless of what brand you buy.

If you do some research on some of the other brands you will see that many have had similar problems and a lot of them are related to the manufacturers who produce the components that go into our trailers, not necessarily with the actual brand of trailer.

Our 08 Flagstaff 831RLSS is our 6th trailer since 1976 and is by far the best one we've owned. The last one was a 2007 26' Kodiak and we had 3 converters go bad, one axle had to be replaced and numerous other minor problems. Even tho' I have made the axle modification to this one by adding the 8 bolts to the supports, I feel this is the best trailer we've owned. We have made numerous modifications to this trailer for our own convience, not to repair anything tho. We would not hesitate to buy another Flagstaff. This is our 2nd winter in Florida with it and have not had any problems whatsoever. We all use this forum to gripe, but as is human nature, we all gripe a lot, but praise very little.

Thanks Norm and Neil,
Good points, all of them. I understand that during the development of a new line of trailers, that there will be engineering issues that will surface after the release of the models. These are usually corrected on subsequent models and if a safety issue becomes a concern, then a re-call is isssued. An example of this might be the problem with the axle assemblies working loose. This would likely be a quality control at the Rockwood assembly facility and would certainly be a safety concern. When reading the forums on this site, it seems the problem has been there for several years and may still be there. Same thing with wheel bearings not being packed. After Rockwood pays a few warranty claims for inadequate wheel bearing lube, wouldn't it be prudent to pump a little greese in the bearings during the PDI?
Anyways, I'm very sorry to rant, particularily in the welcome forum. I do appreciate to hear of your confidence in the Forest River products.
As you can see, I have a pretty old TV and was hoping that was the unit I was going to have to worry about the "wheels falling off of"! LOL

Hiya folks.

We have a 2010 Flagstaff 8526RLWS (Rockwood's equivelent is made on the same assembly line) and LOVE it. Many of the slide posts I made on the Flagstaff forum apply to your rig as well. As a retired pilot, I am used to knowing my plane inside and out and as much nuts and bolts as I can stuff into my pea brain. Most folks don't care how stuff works and are happy to hand the keys over to the maintainers without a backward look. I was always trying to look over the wrench turners shoulders and asked a million questions. Never know when you would be broken down in the out back and need to try and fix the bird yourself with the tool kit and manuals.

So you will most often see threads of folks who had problems, or anticipated potential problems, and how they solved them or would solve them.

So, relax and know you have a quality product and happy RV'ing.

Hi Ted & Wen,

In more than 20 years of camping/caravaning, this FW is our first Forest River RV, and compared to other brands we previously owned, we absolutely love it and are completely satisfied with the quality.
So, enjoy both your retirement and your new toy.

Well folks, we were just notified our trailer is being built Friday the 12th! It should be here in about a week after that. I've been snow blowing for three days making enough room for it. I also cut down about a dozen trees. I'm beat!! I need a holiday, SOON!
Thanks again for all your encouragement.

Welcome my fellow canuk!
Hope you find the forums interesting.
All trailers have issues. The biggest thing I find is you need to do preventative maintenance. And remember if you're handy, there's loads of people here who can help you solve issues.
